First Mood Board (Generic Research)

For my music video of “what you know” by Two Door Cinema Club, I created a mood board of first ideas containing:
- aesthetics and locations of a coastal town and the beach
- plot ideas of a recurring bench motif and the reoccurrence of time
- my ideas for the colour palette containing both a beach themed and low sunset colour palette
- And finally,  music videos that I am inclined to take inspiration from.
The music videos in the mood board include shots from:
      - Bellyache - Billie Eilish
      - These Days - Wallows
      - Mariposa - Peach Tree Rascals
      - Keep it Gold - Surfaces
All of these aesthetics and music videos align with my desired vision for my indie-rock based music video.

Deciding my Music Video Song (Generic Research)

After considering both Avril Lavignes “Sk8ter boy” and Two Door Cinema Clubs “What You Know,” I have settled on “What You Know” as I feel I resonate with the song as I am inclined to make an Indie-Rock video.

“What you know” is a song by Northern Irish band, Two Door Cinema Club, which is a song that’s storyline and meaning is commonly up for interpretation. Many see the song as a love song -where two lovers who have unspoken love for one another finally confess their feelings, other see it as a dramatic breakup song - where the two lovers realise they’re no fit for each other, but fear departure from each other due to their synonymous fear of being alone, and others see it as a bittersweet story of a man leaving his partner to go on with his career - while fearing leaving his partner behind, alone. The interpretation I’m most drawn by is the bittersweet interpretation -as I feel it would supply more depth than the other interpretations of the song - though this is not final.

Past NEAs that inspire me (Generic Research)

One past work that inspires me is https://nea9161shsg.blogspot.com/ due to the use of indie-rock and a summer themed aesthetic created in the video. I like the use of shots of the musical band - alongside the scenes in the skate park - aligning with the summer theme presented in their video. I am also inspired by their website - and their allignment with a real-life store alongside the use of animations on the website.

Another past work that inspires me is https://nea-8190-shsg.blogspot.com/ and the use of shots in their video, whereby a circular shot around the protagonist in the video is used at both the start and end - creating a inexplicit circular narrative. This use of shot I am very interested in using in my video.

Initial ideas of songs (Generic Research)

My initial ideas are torn between two music video ideas: Arvil Lavinges Pop-Rock song “Sk8ter boy,” whereby my video would have a more harsher feel to it due to the songs 2000s punk influence. By second video idea is of Two Door Cinema Clubs indie-rock record “What You Know,” where if I used this song for my music video, a more lighter and brighter and “summer” feel would be added to the video due to the songs upbeat tone.

Why I chose the Music Video brief (Generic Research)

I am inclined to do a music video as I feel I have the creativity to be capable of creating a music video which accumulates my desired aesthetic of an indie-rock, summer-style music video that I wish to create.

Though the brief of a rock song originally discouraged me - after re-thinking of potential songs for my music video and ideas for my website,  I have been encouraged to create a video, rather than my original idea of crating a magazine - as I feel I have the creative capability to try.
